Aquatics
The Aquatics Center offers group and private swim lessons, a masters program, lap and recreation swimming and diving, aquatics based group exercise classes, and is home pool for the College Area Swim Team (CAST) and the Sports For Exceptional Athletes (S4EA) Swim Team. All swimmers using the Competition pool and diving boards must pass a 25-yard swim test. See Aquatics Staff to arrange test. Children under age 12 are not allowed to participate in lap swimming sessions. All children under the age of four are required to wear swim diapers and plastic pants. Floatation devices of any kind are not allowed in any pool. During periods of peak usage, pools may be closed for short periods to conduct required maintenance.

Recreation Swim Sessions
There are two sessions daily for Open Recreation swimming (except one session on Tuesdays & Thursdays until June 20, 2010). All members & guests utilizing the Recreation Pool shall receive a wristband for Session I. If a member or guest chooses to attend Session II and/or III a new wristband must be obtained at the Gym Front Desk to obtain entry for swimming during Session II or Session III.

Aquatic Based Group Exercise Classess
Classes are 50 minutes in duration, unless otherwise noted. General members may attend an unlimited number of classes at no additional cost. Fees are $4 per class for Value members and $5 per class for guests. Classes listed in the Fitness Center Class and Program Schedules are as of the printing date and are subject to change without notice. Please see our current monthly Fitness Center Class Schedules for the most up-to-date information. Classes are restricted to the age ranges listed unless participant provides the class instructor with a physician’s note. The Kroc Center reserves the right to restrict class sizes. Classes are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis only. To reduce the risk of injury and prevent class disruptions, no admittance will be allowed ten minutes after the class is scheduled to begin.
Swim Lessons
GROUP SWIM LESSONS
The Kroc Center offers group lessons for parents with infants and toddlers, youth lessons for children ages 3-16, adult lessons for ages 16 and over and private lessons for all ages. We follow the American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim program using certified instructors. Children in group lessons are evaluated on the first day to ensure enrollment in proper level. We reserve the right to change the schedule and/or cancel lessons as needed.
Parent/Child Lessons
Waterbabies - Levels 1 & 2 Ages 6 months - 3 years This program is for infants and toddlers accompanied by their parents or caregivers. Infants can enter the program when they can hold up their own head (we recommend 6 months old). Through guided practice sessions, children learn skills such as water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration, and much more. Children must wear swim diapers/plastic pants to enter pool. Each class is limited to 10 parents with 1 child. All classes are held in the Therapy Pool. Class limit: 10 parents with child

Preschool & Youth Classes
Tiny Tots 1 – Introduction to Water Skills Ages 3-5 years Introduce inexperienced or fearful children to the water in a fun setting. Using toys and games children learn basic water safety skills while gaining confidence in the water. Skills learned include putting face in water, blowing bubbles through mouth and nose, front and back floating and kicking and jumping into the pool to the instructor. Children under the age of 4 must wear swim diapers and plastic pants. No parents allowed in lessons.
Tiny Tots 2 – Fundamental Aquatic Skills Ages 3-5 years Children build skills in general water safety, breath control, kicking, floating, gliding, paddling and submersion. Students must be comfortable putting face the water and swimming independently. Children under the age of 4 must wear swim diapers and plastic pants. No parents allowed in lessons.
Level 1 – Introduction to Water Skills Ages 5 years and older Introduce inexperienced or fearful child to the water in a fun setting. Level 2 – Fundamental Aquatic Skills Ages 5 years and older Expand on fundamental aquatic and safety skills. Learn breath control, independent kicking, floating, gliding and combined stroke on front and back, turning over and submersion. Student must be comfortable putting face in the water and floating on their front and back.
Level 3 – Stroke Development Ages 5 and older Increase swimming skill competency performing front and back crawl while practicing safety and rescue skills. Skills learned include side breathing, dolphin kick, diving from side of pool, treading water and self-rescue skills.
Level 4 – Stroke Improvement Ages 5 and older Develop confidence, competency and strength in front and back crawl. Strokes learned include elementary backstroke, breaststroke and sidestroke and butterfly. Skills learned include deep water bobbing, diving from side of pool in stride and standing positions, turns at the wall, and familiarity with CPR.
Level 5 – Stroke Refinement Ages 6 and over Refinement of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breaststroke and sidestroke. Alternate breathing, swimming underwater, butterfly, open turns on front and back, diving safety and beginning diving progression from springboard.
Level 6 – Swimming Proficiency Ages 6 and over Develop maximum efficiency and endurance for strockes. Introduce surface dives and flip turns. Approach and hurdle on diving board, tuck and pike surface dives, alternate kicks for treading water, throwing rescues, turning spinal victim face up and approach stroke.
Spring Youth Lesson Schedule

Adult - Introduction to Water Skills
Ages 16 and over An introduction to water safety and beginning swimming skills for adults and adolescents. Basic instruction includes supported and unsupported floating and kicking on front and back and putting face in the water, breathing and basic paddle stroke.
Each class is limited to 10 participants. All classes are held in the Recreation Pool.

Master Swim Club
Whether training toward a competitive goal or just looking to improve your overall fitness, this program will take swimming skills to the next level. College Area Swim Team (CAST)
USAS sanctioned team providing competitive swimming opportunities. Structured workouts for individuals ages 5-18 years. Participants must attend an evaluation practice to be assigned a practice level. S.P.O.R.T.S. for Exceptional Athletes Swim Team
Special Program Opportunities in Recreation, Teamwork, and Sports (S4EA) offers a swim team for athletes with developmental disabilities ages 5 through adult. Participants must register with S4EA prior to attending practices. Please call 858.565.7432 or visit their website at www.S4EA.org.
